Dog treat calorie calculator

This free calculator turns a healthy adult dog's weight into an estimated daily treat allowance.

Weight-only estimates exclude puppies, pregnancy or lactation, unhealthy, underweight, or overweight dogs, and prescribed diets.

Vet-set total daily kcal (optional)

Enter your vet's daily kcal total to override the weight estimate, including for individual plans.

Kcal per treat (optional)

Enter positive kcal per treat from the label.

Estimated daily treat allowance

Complete and balanced food should provide at least 90% of daily calories, while treats stay at or below 10% inside the total, not added to meals. [1]

Results are variable starting-point estimates, not a required snack target, and you may feed less. All treats, chews, table food, and unbalanced extras share this allowance.

Respect product age, weight, and feeding instructions. Ask your veterinarian to set your dog's plan.

How the math works

RER = 70 × weight in kg0.75
Daily kcal = RER × factor
Treat allowance = daily kcal × 0.10

Weight converts at kg = lb × 0.45359237. The factor is 1.6 for a healthy neutered/spayed adult and 1.8 for a healthy intact adult. [2] A vet-set daily kcal total replaces the weight estimate.

Whole treats = floor(unrounded allowance ÷ kcal per treat).
